psychiatry…according to tom cruise
had this larger than life headache last night. i was lying on the floor debating over relief from the headache at the extent of working up my liver with a gram of tylenol, or just letting the headache define the rest of the night.
it was in the middle of this ridiculous and insensible debate when my two year old boy showed up.
he is into turning things on and off. he doesn’t really like watching TV, but the fact that he can turn the box on and off is a big deal for him.
in an instant i sort of forgot my headache. i didn’t know tom’s smile can do that.
tom cruise was yakking about scientology, psychiatry, psychology. “tom cruise: a man with a mission” the show said.
was it the headache or did he really say “psychiatry is not a science, it is a fraud; promoting drug use to treat depression is irresponsible.”
he was very passionate, with the veins on his forehead bulging. he sounded convinced about what he was saying, but on the other hand, he sounded unreal too. it was almost like he was rehearsing a script for an upcoming movie. it reminded me of that movie “magnolia” where he played a disturbed motivational speaker. to me, it was as if he was playing that role, that it was not really him. it was eerie.
unexpectedly, he messed up with my thoughts. when the show was over, the headache got worse.
so, is psychiatry a fraud, and anti-depressants are poison?
you may not have that contradicting effects on my headache, but you are sure welcome to speak up. what do you think?

I recently watched Oprah when Tom was on it. I forgot about everything…my laundry that needed to be done…everything. He’s adorable. I don’t get why people say he’s gay…I hope he’s not gay…like it would affect me in anyway..lol.
I always find that drugs help me get over my headaches. Laying down on Sundays and watching Lifetime network always gives me a doozy of a headache.

I never found the attraction with Tom Cruise even back in the day when he was “all that”. Now I think he is proving himself to be the wack-a-doo I always suspected he was. Psychiatry and their drugs have literally saved many a life, mine included.

very funny - i’ve noticed that tom cruise is a real wack job. all the ladies who fawn over him have no idea what goes on in his head. he was interviewed recently and went a little mental about his love for katie holmes. glad he’s found solace with the cult of scientology.

there must really be some loose screws somewhere in tom’s head huh. i wonder what will it take to make him totally snap.
i still say he has a great smile…

I am so torn about Tom. I love him as only a girl from the “Top Gun Generation” can…but wish he were taller. *sigh* For all of his strange ways, stories of him being a knight in shining armor circulated when I lived in LA. (Coming to the aid of a woman hit by a car, waiting ’til the ambulance arrived, then paying her hospital bills when he found out she had no insurance.)
I guess I can tolerate his weirdness
BTW: I blogrolled ya back!!

I don’t understand their absolute intolerance against psychiatry … I just don’t. First, they don’t want meds to treat these conditions, but when you go deeper, they don’t believe the conditions exist, so therefore counseling doesn’t need to be used either. (just brainwashing to convince you they are not true).
Try living in a house with two boys with Tourette’s Syndrome, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and ADHD.
Then get a dignosis, proper medication.
Suddenly, you’re living with two very vibrant, happy kids with a couple of quirks.
The disorders are in the background where only parents who have it in their household, or doctor’s who deal with the issue can see it … and the real child is shinning through.
I’m with mamalife …they may not have saved my life, or my children’s, but they saved my sanity and they gave my children a happy childhood!

Psychiatric drugs are sometimes overused. But I think they are definitely needed; psychiatric illnesses truly exist and it is rather heartless of Mr. Cruise to say otherwise.

if i wanted a recommendation on what kind of oil i should use in my car, i would go to a mechanic. if i wanted to know if i needed to upgrade my motherboard, i would go to a computer expert. if i wanted an opinion on the usefulness of psychiatry, i would go to tom cruise??? ummm… i don’t think so!

Drugs alter your mind. Do the research and you’ll find out. Some are legal and some are not. But they all alter your mind. Some dealers are legal and some are not. The legal ones are calles psychiatrists. That’s the whole story. If somenone means that he or she feels better with drugs, that’s ok. But don’t change the truth. They will damage you phisically and alter your mind. And they will not do anything to the underliyng reason why yoy felt bad in the first place. People look for remedies to stop their problems. Same thing with psychological problems. And if one doesn’t have the real information about what drugs do, or what alternatives might exsist, one could choose for the remedie that lies in front. But it doesn’t change the fact that it is drugs and that it is dangerous and damaging.
