please people…
i beg you…
if you put those ECG electrodes on a patient’s chest, let them know it is there to connect the heart monitor leads on, and that when the leads are disconnected, it can be taken off. let them know it is not medicine, and definitely not a device used to attract some sort of energy from outerspace to heal them.
better yet…
make sure you take them off before the patient goes home.
i’m not being bossy, i just don’t want to hear another version of what i heard from a friend this morning: “he is okay, they sent him home with a medicine. a little round thing with some steel looking thing that was stuck on his chest. i told him to keep it on. i know it’s uncomfortable, but hey, if it helps him, he should keep it stuck there.”
other than that…let us be grateful to God, and enjoy all the people and things we have this holiday season.

Funny and yet………??? You would think that it would be standard protocol to let someone know what those were as they were beng put there AND to make sure they were removed. I couldn’t help but giggle though.
Happy Holidays!
Dawn

There are probably only about three nurses in this entire country that actually remove tele electrode stickers.
Sometimes a patient gets a set in the ER, another set for their stress test, another set when they get to their floor bed, and eventually their entire chest is plastered with enough stickers to re-do your bathroom.

Working on tele, I have seen that more times than I care to think about…
An even funnier one is when it REALLY IS medicine.. (the nitro stickers). I have heard of several people who go back to their doctor for their first checkup with a dozen or so stuck to their body, because no one explained to take the old one off when they put the next one on…

So sad isn’t it?
I can just imagine the look on our face.

It also happens here most of the time, May.
Merry Christmas to you always, and a happy, healthy, less-toxic (ang puso mo!) New Year to you and your loved ones.

in the ER, I leave the stickers on…….”in case another EKG is ordered” and I explain this to the patient, also the fact that they come off easily in the shower.
