apology and thanks
first of all, i apologize to those who had a negative reaction to the little fictional story i posted. i understand that it sort of concerned some of you because the main character was a nurse. it was also narrated in the first person, making it look at first that i was talking about my own experience, and it was kind of deceiving.
i’m sorry it sounded that way to some of you, but that was not my intention. i assumed that people who drop by here often remember some things about me that will easily give away the fact that i was not talking about myself in that little story. obviously, my assumption was wrong, so please accept my apology.
secondly, THANKS to those who left comments encouraging me to continue doing it. i appreciate your kind words, i really do. at the same time, i also want to set the record straight: i have no illusion whatsoever of being called a writer. i am not trying to be modest or something. i am just very grounded on reality. i have read a LOT of books, and i know why writers are called writers. needless to say, i am completely aware that i do not have what it takes to be considered a writer. i am well aware of that, but i also happen to know that it is not that bad to just dream it is possible.
although i am not a writer, i am very comfortable calling myself a storyteller. to quote the immortal words of napoleon dynamite, “there is plenty of that where it came from”. as far as i can remember, i have made up stories in my head since i was 5 years old. i do it all the time, even when i am doing something else. i would see someone, or something, and a story will pop up in my head like a movie. they are not good stories, but they are stories nonetheless.
over the years, i have written a lot of stories in some sort of paper. no, i do not have those papers anymore. yet another proof that i do know where the line is. sometimes however, i find it fun to share those stories. just for the sake of fun. there’s nothing wrong with that, right?
i guess what i’m really trying to ask is this: when real life gets routinely redundant, don’t you think it’s okay to just chill and share some silly stories to get our minds off some kind of boredom?
i think it’s perfectly okay.
let me know what your thoughts are.
thank you.

I just have to say — This is your blog and you do what you like. Who says you’re not a writer? Writing blogs takes talent, and that you have.
By the way, I’m looking for good stories as I host Grand Rounds next week. Check out my blog for details….

First of all I have to say, Cheers to you for being a nurse. I have a lot of respect for nurses.
Secondly, I have been reading your blog for quite some time but I have never commented. I love your blog and the way you write.
Thirdly, I have to agree with the above comment,”Who says you are not a writer?”. You should give yourself more credit! If writing makes you happy, then that is what counts! Don’t listen to the nasties who make negative remarks.

writer, storyteller, blogger - whatever you call yourself, I think you have one of the more compelling blogs out there, and that is because of your unique voice. Bring on the stories!!!

I also support your writing of stories! For goodness sakes, this is your blog and you can do what you want with it, and if it makes you happy to post stories you wrote, then that is great!
I recently read “Better” by Atul Gawande and he has a list of 5 recommendations for medical professionals in the last chapter - I’m not going to list all of them, but one of the recommendations was “write something”. He said it didn’t matter what you write, but the simple act of writing makes your brain work in a different way and that helps you be a better doctor/nurse/professional. So now you have published proof why writing is good.

Don’t give up on the writing thing! Heck, I have the very same dream, to the point where I have actually written a book that I am trying to get published. If I can do it, you certainly can. Good luck and keep writing.
