Oh my, I'm sorry but Dan has a foul mouth. And that charge nurse should have been professional enough to settle disputes in a constructive way.

But I commend you Ma'am May for being non-apathetic and for boldly standing up for your convictions. If people don't do anything about any problem then no change would occur.

I just hope that there will be more nurses out there like you. More power and God Bless!

Your charge nurse should have taken the staff member she had a problem with behind closed doors. But since she did not, she let her emotions take control of her professionalism. And, you should have taken her behind closed doors. It would have been okay for anyone to say to the charge nurse, "this conversation should be taken to the office (or wherever)." Sometimes we forget we are professionals.

Yeah, I think anytime someone makes one grand, sweeping comment like Dan did, it's pretty much as he says, "bollocks." It just doesn't make sense to generalize like that.

I am glad you wrote this because it's helping me to clarify something about myself which is this: I've lost that feeling that you speak of, and I don't know how to get it back. I used to feel that way (fulfilled) at the end of the day, but now I just feel drained and frustrated. Oh well. Maybe I just need to get the heck out of recovery room nursing.

Oh, and when people like yourself decide to stand up to someone, it usually ends up having 100x more significance, because you seem like a thoughtful and kind person, and not someone who is prone to shooting their mouth off over any silly little thing.

If caring about patients is what Dan considers "bollocks" than its good that he left nursing. No one has the right to undermine what you hold dear. Its because there are still nurses that care that the profession hasn't got to total crap.
And congrats on standing up to the charge nurse. We have the same issue with a charge nurse at my unit. It has to be one of the crappier parts of nursing.
